Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Nacho Cheese Burger

This burger is amazing.  Here we simply have a square all beef patty (Wendy’s Inspired) surrounded by melted nacho cheese topped with 4 slices of turkey bacon strips.  This thing is then held together with an Auntie Anne’s inspired pretzel (sugary and buttery).

Recipe Type: Appetizer
Cuisine: American
Serves: 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tsp Sugar
  • 1-1/4 Cup Hot Water
  • 4 Tsp Yeast
  • 3-5 Cups of Flour
  • ½ Cup of Sugar
  • ½ Cup of Baking Soda
  • 4 Cups of Really Hot Water
  • 1 Lb 96% Lean Ground Beef
  • 8 Turkey Bacon Strips
  • 8 Tbsp Nacho Cheese Sauce
  • Kosher Salt for taste

THINGS YOU'LL NEED:

Instructions:

Make Dough:

  1. In a large bowl combine 1 Tsp of Sugar, 1-1/4 Cups of Hot Water and 4 Tsp of Yeast.
  2. Let it rest for about 5 minutes or until it starts to fizzle and bubble up.
  3. Toss in 3 Cups of flour add more if necessary
  4. Toss in ½ Cup of sugar, more or less depending on the sweetness you desire
  5. Stir it all up well until it forms a dough like substance in which you can take it out of the bowl and toss it onto a floured surface and start kneading the dough for at least 8 minutes.
  6. Grease up a medium sized bowl and grease up the dough ball and toss it into the bowl and cover it up with clingy wrap
  7. Place it in a warm spot for 45 minutes or until the dough rises to twice its size
  8. NOTE: I placed mine on top of my gas stove while the oven is preheated. It radiated quite a bit of heat and allowed my dough to rise much faster.

Make Pretzel Buns:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F
  2. Fill a shallow pan with 4 Cups of really hot water, like almost burning you hot, but not boiling.
  3. Add in ½ Cup of Baking Soda and whisk it into the water until it dissolves
  4. Roll out your dough onto a floured surface and cut it down into square like shapes
  5. Once you have your Pretzel Bun shapes made, toss them into the Baking Soda water and place them on a greased pan
  6. Lightly salt the Pretzel Buns and place them in the oven @ 425°F for 5 minutes. Rotate half way if necessary and bake for an additional 5 minutes. Times may very depending on how thin or thick your pretzel is. Make sure you constantly check!
  7. Once your pretzel buns are done, you may need to make some adjustments to the size. Cut them down using a pizza cutter and square them up to the perfect size to fit your burger.

Make Burger & Bacon & Assemble:

  1. Grab about a ¼ lb of Ground Beef and hand press it into the shape of a square (square is optional, although I highly recommend it)
  2. Season the meat with a little salt & pepper
  3. Grill up your Beef Patty & Turkey bacon strips and then set aside
  4. Melt some nacho cheese and start assembly your burger! You can assemble in any order you want this part is completely optional. What I did was I started with a Pretzel Bun, then a 1 Tbsp spread of Nacho Cheese, then the Burger Patty, then a 1 Tbsp spread of Nacho Cheese, then the 2 Turkey Bacon Strips cut in half, and the top Pretzel Bun!
  5. Cut in half and enjoy

You can be creative here and literally put whatever it is you like on a burger. I personally think when it comes to pretzels, it's a must to have nacho cheese. I always say a video says everything.
