Denny’s Hooburrito Recipe

Requested by TommyShaw on YouTube, this was on Denny’s Late Night Rock Star Menu in 2009 created by Hoobastank.  This wrap was supposed to come with fried chicken strips, but this thing is bad enough for you already.  I also figured the fried strips would destroy the wrap so I went with a HeLLthier option of slow-cooking pulled chicken instead.

Ingredients:


  • ½ Cup Chicken Breast Shredded - 116 Calories
  • 1 Tbsp Cheese Sauce - 37 Calories
  • ½ Slice of Pepper Jack Cheese - 30 Calories
  • 1 Tbsp BBQ Sauce (I prefer Roasted Garlic Honey Dinosaur BBQ)
  • 2 oz Onion Straws - 80 Calories
  • Flaxseed Flatbread - 50 Calories
  • Slow Cook Chicken Ingredients
  • 4 Chicken Breast Halves
  • 1 Cup Chicken Broth or 1 Cup Water & 1 Bouillon Cube

Onion Straws Ingredients:


  • 1-1/2 Cup All Purpose Flour
  • 2 Tsp Cayenne Pepper (or more if you like it spicy)
  • ½ Tsp Salt
  • ½ Tsp Black Pepper
  • Buttermilk (Use until onions are fully submerged)
  • 1 Large White Onion
  • Canola Oil for Frying

Cheese Sauce Ingredients:


  • ¼ Cup All Purpose Flour
  • ¼ Cup Butter
  • 1-1/3 Cup Skim Milk
  • 1 Cup Cubed Cheddar Cheese

THINGS YOU'LL NEED:



Instructions:


  1. Slow Cook Chicken
  2. Take a fatty chicken breast and cut into halves so they are half as thick. This will speed up the slow cooking time.
  3. Pour in 1 Cup Chicken Broth or 1 Cup Water & 1 Bouillon Cube into a pan. Add in your chicken, don't crowd the pan, about 4 breast halves should do the trick.
  4. Bring to a boil and then let it simmer covered for 10 minutes. Flip once within this time, preferably 5 minutes into it.
  5. Now bring the pot to a low temperature and let it sit for 30 minutes or until chicken pulls apart easily.
  6. Once the chicken is pulling apart nicely, toss it into a medium sized bowl and add in BBQ sauce of your choice until it mixes well.

Make Onion Straws:


  1. Cut and peel the White Onion and slice ⅛" thick. Use a Mandolin Slicer to get consistent cuts and thickness.
  2. Soak the Onions in Buttermilk in a shallow pan for 1 hour to marinade.
  3. Prepare flour mixture by adding about 1-1/2 Cups of All Purpose Flour, 2 Tsp of Cayenne Pepper, ½ Tsp of Salt & ½ Tsp Pepper
  4. Once your onions have been soaking for an hour, using tongs, grab a few rings at a time and cover them in your flour mixture liberally and immediately submerge into your deep fryer, or pan with oil. (You want your pan to be on medium heat and the oil temperature to be at about 365°F)
  5. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they reach the golden brown consistency you desire.

Cheese Sauce:


  1. Into a Vitamix blender, add in a ¼ Cup All Purpose Flour, ¼ Cup Butter, 1-1/3 Cup Skim Milk
  2. Close the lid and turn on with low power
  3. Switch to high power and let it blend for 5-6 minutes or until steam begins to escape the blender
  4. At this point begin adding your cheese blocks and blend for an additional 1 minute

Build & Grill:


  1. Wrap
  2. Cheese Sauce
  3. Onion Straws
  4. Chicken
  5. Pepper Jack Cheese
  6. Cheese Sauce
  7. BBQ Sauce
  8. Wrap
  9. Grill
  10. Cut
  11. Serve
