We made our own Meat Dress BARBIE and Melon HOT POT

Competition is on on who can make the most exceptional Hot Pot... JP versus Julia. Who will win? Video live this Saturday morning.

Ingredients:
Fruit (for the wow factor)
  • Winter Melon
  • Watermelon
  • Pumpkin
Soup Base
  • Chicken Broth
  • Enoki Mushrooms
  • Shitake Mushrooms
  • Green Onion
  • Dried Dates
  • Salt
Soup Ingredients
  • Thinly Sliced Beef Ribeye
  • Noodles (ramen, rice noodles)
  • Dumplings
  • Wontons
  • Chinese Spinach
  • Cabbage
  • 1 Large Carrot, Pealed and Sliced
  • Salt to taste
  • Crushed Ice
THINGS YOU’LL NEED:

Instructions:

  1. Start with plating and refrigerating/freezing hot pot soup ingredients so when the pot is on and the soup is ready all the other ingredients just need to be set out on the table. Plate everything separately, make sure to keep beef in the freezer prior serving/creating Barbie meat dress. These ingredients include protein, noodles, dumplings, wontons, and vegetables.
  2. Carve fruit using pumpkin carving kit or applicable kitchen knives. Make sure to carve out all of the seeds and pith. Cut out decorative rim. Cut bottom of the fruit to make a flat surface. (Note: you don't need fruit to hot pot. This just adds a fun element to the experience)
  3. In a large stock pot, big enough for the fruit, place the fruit and begin your soup base.
  4. The winter melon recipe included 2 containers of chicken broth, enoki mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, green onion, dried dates, and salt. Bring to a boil and let simmer for at-least 20 minutes. (Pre-made stock pot packets are also available at asian grocery stores and are a great replacement if you don't have all the ingredients/time to make your own soup base)
  5. To make the Barbie dress, (not necessary, but very fun) wrap Barbie in plastic wrap, place in a bowl full of crushed ice, and carefully wrap the beef rib "dressing" the Barbie. Get creative and have fun with this!
  6. Take out all of the prepared soup ingredients from step 1. Grab up a bowl and spoon, and your friends, to enjoy your very own hot pot party at home.
