Angriest Carolina Reaper Whopper

We decided to be stupid and make this with the world’s hottest pepper.  If you want to be stupid too, you can follow by example.  If you however want to make a majority of your organs happy along with avoiding excruciating pain, then by all means 86 the Carolina Reapers.  If you want to mess with your friends tho, adding the peppers to the bun won’t change the “look” of it and you can have fun feeding friends extremely spicy bread.

Recipe Type: Entree
Cuisine: American
Serves: 1

Ingredients:

  • Red Spicy Hamburger Bun
  • 80/20 Ground Beef
  • Pepperjack Cheese (personal preference)
  • Angry Sauce
  • Onion Petals
  • Bacon Strips
  • Jalapeno Chips
  • Tomatoes
  • Leafy Lettuce
  • Mayonnaise

Hamburger Bun Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp Rapid Rise Yeast (blue packet)
  • 1 Cup Hot Water (105°F)
  • 1 Egg
  • ¼ Stick Melted Butter
  • 2 Tbsp White Granulated Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Franks Red Hot (not necessary)
  • 1 Tsp Carolina Reapers (more if you're really stupid)
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • Red Food Dye (not healthy...)
  • 3 Cups Flour (add more if necessary)
  • Top it with 1 beaten egg and sesame seeds

Onion Petals:

  • 1 White Onion
  • ½ Cup Buttermilk
  • ¼ Cup Water
  • 1 Cup Onion Ring Mix
  • Angry Sauce: 1 Tbsp BBQ
  • 1 Tbsp Honey
  • 1 Tsp White Distilled Vinegar
  • ¼ Tsp Carolina Reapers
  • ¼ Tsp Mustard

THINGS YOU'LL NEED:

Instructions:

Red Buns:

  1. An easy way to make these hamburger buns is to use rapid rise yeast which saves on time. Just mix all the ingredients besides the flour together in a mixing bowl and whisk. The more red dye you use, the more red the buns will be and the more artificial chemicals you will consume. If color doesn't matter to you, then skip the dye.
  2. WARNING: For the Carolina Reapers, make sure you grind them up until fine before using in this recipe if you decide to use them. Please proceed with caution, do not touch your face, wear gloves if possible.
  3. Slowly add in flour and mix. Keep adding in the flour until it pulls away from the bowl.
  4. Once well combined take your dough out of the mixer and put into a clean bowl with some oil. Cover with tin foil and let rise for 2 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Take your dough out and flatten into a rectangular shape, cut your dough into 8 buns, tuck the sides underneath into a ball, lay them on a baking sheet, and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise until doubled in size.
  6. Take an egg and lightly brush on top of buns. Sprinkle on sesame seeds and bake for 20 minutes at 375°F.
  7. Onion Petals
  8. Cut your onions with the root facing up. The slices you make down into your onion determine the width of you onion petal. The more cuts you make around the onion, the skinnier the petal will be.
  9. Once you make all your cuts, flip the onion over and peel off the petals. If you don't pull them off, you essentially have a blooming onion.
  10. We bought a pre-made mix which is you don't have that then you can make your own.
  11. All we did was create a batter by mixing in 1 Cup Buttermilk, ¼ Cup Water & 1 Cup of the mix.
  12. Toss your onion petals into the batter, mix with tongs and then place them into hot oil (375°F) and fry until golden brown. 3-4 minutes.

Build:

  1. For the Angry Sauce just mix the ingredients together in a bowl, flame broil a burger patty, grill up some bacon and we can finally build this burger. Is it worth going through all these steps to make this thing? Well that's entirely up for you to decide. You don't have to utilize all these components, but it does help for authenticity and the fact that we "recreate" things.
  2. Bottom Bun
  3. oz Burger Patty
  4. Slice Pepperjack Cheese
  5. Tbsp Angry Sauce
  6. Jalapeno Chips
  7. Onion Petals
  8. Bacon Strips
  9. Tomatoes
  10. Big Leafy Lettuce
  11. Tsp Mayonnaise
  12. Top Bun
